Are you a fan of dramatic mountains? How about alpine lakes, rivers, and waterfalls? Do sketchy ridge lines with epic views make your day? Well, I have the day hike* for you.
I’m talking about the Kananaskis Alpine Loop, an unofficial 36k hike in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, a wilderness highlighted with a daunting traverse of Northover Ridge. We had previously planned to spend a night at either Three Isle or Aster Lake, but with no campsite availability opted to hammer through the entire loop in a day.
Some people enjoy trips to Hawaii or Mexico…sitting on the beach with margaritas and mai tais. That doesn’t really do it for me. For me, cresting Northover in the middle of a storm, almost losing my balance in the wind, and taking in that 360° landscape brought a level of contentment with life that is hard to match.
